Book Publishing

Book Publishing I & II (Ages 14-Adult), 9:00-10:00, Room 215

In this hands-on publishing course, students will develop the skills needed to write, design, and produce professional-quality publications. This combined-level class offers unique opportunities for both beginner and advanced students to build their expertise in writing, layout design, and book production.

• Beginner students will create and publish three distinct projects: a coloring book, an illustrated children’s book, and a comic book, gaining foundational experience in storytelling, illustration, and digital publishing.
• Advanced students will refine their skills by learning hardcover bookbinding techniques and publishing an anthology of work from Potter’s Clay, along with one additional student-selected project.

Throughout the year, students will also practice interviewing techniques, article writing, photo editing, and page design, as well as explore various publishing outlets. The course will feature guest speakers from the industry and several field trips, providing insight into real-world publishing.
