In Secondary Art, students transition from basic art concepts to more advanced creative exploration. As their fine motor skills develop, they learn to problem-solve artistic challenges and refine their ability to make independent choices within project guidelines. This stage focuses on connecting the seven elements of art in a more cohesive and intentional way, helping students create well-composed, expressive artwork.
For the first time, students will also begin working with a sketchbook, learning how to plan, experiment, and develop ideas over time. With increased focus and growing confidence, they will take meaningful steps toward artistic independence.
Building on foundational skills, Secondary Art helps young artists take the next step in their creative journey. Designed for ages 7-9, this class strengthens fine motor skills, introduces problem-solving in art, and encourages deeper connections between concepts. Guided by an experienced early childhood specialist, students will explore the seven elements of art, learning how to combine them for more cohesive and expressive artwork. They will work with a variety of mediums, gaining hands-on experience in drawing, painting, and mixed media. For the first time, students will also learn to use a sketchbook to develop focus, plan projects, and build creative independence. With more flexibility in their work, they’ll gain confidence in making artistic choices while refining their techniques.
